Launched in February 2015 the initiative itself is named in honor of Diane Nash, an unsung heroine of the Civil Rights era whose brilliant tactical mind led to several of the movement’s major victories- including the march from Selma to Montgomery Alabama.  The march culminated in President Lyndon B. Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
